Our wider impact continued
Employee involvement
75% of Aviva employees agree we do a good job
of contributing to communities. We encourage
all our employees to take up to three days of paid
volunteering leave a year. As well as contributing
towards our community targets, this improves
the motivation, wellbeing and skills-base of
our people.
In 2013, 27% of employees volunteered time
equivalent to 41,223 hours (2012: 56,357). We
are continuing to roll out our new volunteering
strategy and system which prioritises skills-based
volunteering to improve these gures. It was
launched in 2012 in the UK, where we have
now achieved 58% skills and leadership-based
volunteering.
We are proud to have achieved the UK
Government’s payroll giving Gold Standard
award. In 2013, 27% of employees made
nancial donations through payroll giving
(2012: 28%) totalling £536,639.
Street to School
We launched Street to School in 2009. It now
operates in 17 countries and has helped over
800,000 street-connected children.
The third International Day for Street Children
took place in April 2013 to raise awareness of the
global issue. Since 2011, the number of countries
participating has grown from 30 to 128.
In December 2013, we held a round table in
Singapore in partnership with the UN Ofce of
the High Commissioner for Human Rights
(OHCHR) and the Consortium for Street Children.
The round table brought together Government
representatives with UN agencies, academia and
business, to discuss issues related to the rights of
street-connected children. The round table
discussion was a recommendation of the 2012
OHCHR report on street children, supported
by Aviva.
Oxfam 365
Aviva supports global emergency relief charity
Oxfam 365, which provides immediate help to
communities suffering life trauma, such as the
devastation caused in the Philippines by Typhoon
Haiyan. In 2013, our contribution to Oxfam 365
exceeded £1 million.
PASSPORT 2012
PASSPORT 2012 was the
rst global study to include
the views of children
involved in the Street to
School programme. They
were positive about the
benets they have received,
including improved
wellbeing and better
future prospects.
The report made a
number of key
recommendations for
practitioners and
stakeholders involved in
supporting young people
under similar circumstances.

Employees: We manage our risks
by delivering on our commitment
to respecting and promoting fair
reward, diversity and inclusion, equal
opportunities, labour relations and
freedom of association.

require suppliers to commit to ILO core

universal declaration of human rights.
Customers: Our business ethics
code requires us to conduct
business in a way which respects human
rights. This includes being clear in our
communications, ensuring accessibility to
our expert staff and privacy of their data.
Community: Our corporate
responsibility, climate change and
environment practices are aligned to the
UNUDHR, ILO core labour standards and
UN Global Compact principles.
Investment: We embed the
Principles of Responsible
Investment across all asset classes.
Where human rights risks are identied
in our holdings, we engage with
companies to address our concerns.
