Express Scripts 2010 Annual Report 4
Express Scripts has long established itself as a leading
innovator in pharmacy benefi t management. Our
roster of industry fi rsts is the result of a company-wide
determination to improve the lives of the members we
serve and reduce waste in the pharmacy benefi t.
Our ability to drive positive clinical behavior through
Consumerology is unsurpassed. Supported by our
Consumerology Advisory Board, composed of nationally
recognized leaders in the behavioral sciences and related
areas, were tracking information from the fi elds of behavioral
economics, social psychology and other related disciplines.
With that information, we test and learn, gaining insights
into the drivers of healthcare-related consumer behavior.
We apply these to improve how patients use the pharmacy
benefi t, stay compliant with their medication and save money.
Already making a difference are new products
developed as a result of this key insight into member
behavior: Members want to feel involved but most are
not paying attention. Yet when presented with a choice,
more often than not members choose exactly what plan
sponsors want … actions that lower costs and improve
health outcomes.
Sparked by Curiosity,
Fueled by Insight
There is very little clinical improvement
There is very little clinical improvement
without changing behavior ... And the without changing behavior ... And the
runway for understanding behavior and runway for understanding behavior and
using it to improve health outcomes is using it to improve health outcomes is
very long and very rich.very long and very rich.
