Rates will not increase in 2007; that will mean less revenue
growth than in 2006.
Cable ONE has successfully made a transition from a
business largely based on video to a business offering
video, digital video, internet modems and telephony. It’s
well-positioned for years to come.
PostNewsweek Stations had a surprisingly good year.
Alan Frank’s outstanding management of this business
has increased my own sense of what is possible from a
group television business today.
The economic and demographic winds are strongly with
Kaplan and Cable ONE. Not so with PNS. There are ever-
more alternatives to watching network TV, and the networks
are ever-less interested in their core business.
In the face of this, Alan and his team have our company
on the offensive in four of our six markets: KSAT, under Jim
Joslyn, remains a runaway number one in San Antonio.
WKMG,turned around by Henry Maldonado, has running
room in front of it in Orlando. WPLG,reprogrammed
aggressively by Dave Boylan, now has the number one
6o’clock news in Miami — in English or Spanish. This sta-
tion can make a big difference to 2007 results. Amazingly,
WJXT, our independent station in Jacksonville (now under
John Rafferty), set an all-time revenue record.
