We have implemented a 1.5 Million Tree-planting Project
worldwide to mark the 150th anniversary of Toshiba in 2025. As
of the end of March 2010 we had already planted around
770,000 trees in Japan and in other regions where we operate.
We also contribute to science and math education in various
parts of the world. In Japan, we support the development of
experiential science education programs in collaboration with an
NGO, Real Science Education Institute. In North America, we have
held the ExploraVision Awards (EVA), a science and technology
contest, every year since 1990, in cooperation with the National
Science Teachers Association (NSTA). To date, over 250,000
students have participated in the program. In China, in 2008, we
initiated a contest for students in science and math programs at
normal (teacher training) universities.
Many of our employees take part in these social contribution
activities as volunteers and are instrumental in developing closer
relations with the communities in which we work.
