Our domestic restaurant development
continues to be among the best in the industry.
By working with our franchisees to ensure
superior real estate is selected for each new
location, we drive higher sales volumes for new
restaurants. In fact, domestic units built in 2015
are averaging $1.6 million in sales on an
annualized basis. We are excited that 90
percent of our new restaurant openings come
from existing franchisees — a testament to both
our strong, collaborative relationships and
franchisees that continue to like the returns.
Internationally, we opened 94 restaurants in
15 foreign countries and 1 territory, bringing our
international restaurant count to 569. We also
posted international same-store sales growth
of 7 percent, marking the ninth consecutive
year of positive same-store sales growth. At the
same time, our team made great progress in
localizing our supply chains, which muted the
impact of the stronger U.S. dollar in many parts
of the globe. Most importantly, we continued to
build our brand, introduce new cultures to
Louisiana-inspired cuisine, and build on our
loyal Popeyes following around the world. 11.8%
