Pioneer Corporation Annual Report 2011 19
Conveying the Emotion of Music with
“Listen through the Body” Concerts
Pioneer regularly sponsors “Listen through the
Body” concerts to bring the joy of music to people
with hearing difficulties, using vibrating acoustic
systems developed by the Company which convert
sounds into vibrations.
These concerts have been held since 1992 and
are one of Pioneer’s primary social contribution
activities. A total of 28 concerts were held during
fiscal 2011, with volunteers consisting of employ-
ees and their families, who handled all of the
operations involved.
With the help of
everyone contributing
to these concerts, Pio-
neer will continue to
bring the joy and
emotion of music to
even more people.
Car Navigation System’s Eco Function
Receives Environmental Awards
Three models of Pioneer’s Cyber Navi system
received the Judging Committee Special Award
as part of the “Green IT AWARD 2010” and the
Special Award from the Board of Review as part of
the “12th Green Purchasing Award,” both in
Japan. These awards were in recognition of the
cutting-edge ecological functions included in
these models to reduce the vehicle’s fuel con-
sumption and CO2 emissions, including the Japa-
nese consumer-market car navigation industry’s first
“eco-route search” function.*
The “eco-route search” function uses Pioneer’s
proprietary fuel estimation technology and the
Smart Loop congestion information” function to
accurately estimate the arrival time for each pos-
sible route, and proposes in advance the route
with the estimated lowest fuel consumption.
Actively Engaged in Social and
Environmental Activities Overseas
Pioneer (HK) Limited, Pioneer’s Hong Kong subsid-
iary, is actively engaged in local activities to con-
tribute to society and protect the environment,
including participation in fund-raising and cleanup
activities sponsored by Hong Kong charities, and
by making and distributing original recycled bags
and handkerchiefs to call attention to resource
conservation.
In October 2010, volunteers from the com-
pany removed more than 100 kilograms of
Mikania micrantha, a weed that spreads rapidly
and smothers other
plants causing them
to wither and die,
which has created
major problems in
Southeast Asia.
Corporate Social Responsibility
Based on our corporate philosophy of “Move the Heart and Touch the Soul,” Pioneer is emphasizing compli-
ance with laws and regulations, respecting human rights and striving to protect the environment and improve
product quality, in order to continue to be a company that is trusted by society. While placing a high value
on dialogue with stakeholders, including customers, shareholders, employees, vendors, and members of
local communities, we are working to contribute to society and protect the environment by making maxi-
mum use of our business-related expertise and technological capabilities.
