Pioneer Corporation Annual Report 2011 09
Aggressively Introducing Products
in New Categories
Pioneer has recently been intro-
ducing a succession of products
in new categories. Would you tell
us more about this?
As a new business model, the consumer-market car
navigation business has launched a full-scale car
navigation service using smartphones, in coopera-
tion with NTT Docomo, Inc. Compact cars and light
vehicles have had a low rate of installation of car
navigation systems, and we are accelerating the
development of the market by targeting this user
group. This service uses NTT Docomo’s information
service for drivers with the carrozzeria smartphone
link Navi Cradle that Pioneer introduced in April
2011, to provide smartphone users with the same
level of quality as full-scale car navigation systems.
The service allows drivers to view recommended
routes and access information using highly accurate
vehicle position information and Pioneer’s proprie-
tary probe (vehicle driving) information.
In addition, in May 2011, Pioneer released Cyber
Navi models equipped with an augmented reality
(AR) scouter mode that uses a specialized camera
mounted on the car’s windshield to display an
actual image of what is in front of the car, and over-
lays this with directions and other information
obtained using Pioneer’s proprietary image analy-
sis technology. Furthermore, we plan to introduce
our next-generation automotive head-up displays.

of smartphones into full-fledged car navigation systems.
