The forward contracts on the foreign currency receivable and payable translated into Japanese yen at the forward exchange rates in the
accompanying consolidated financial statements are not included in the above amounts.
The fair value of currency option agreements is estimated by obtaining quotes from financial institutions. The fair value of foreign
exchange forward contracts is estimated based on market prices for contracts with similar terms. The fair value of stock-price swap contracts
is estimated by o btaining quotes from financial institutions.
18 . SUBSEQ UENT EVENTS
(a) In April 2005, the Company transferred the product categories o f industrial microscopes from the Industrial Systems Business to the
Life Science Business, and industrial endoscopes, printers, and bar code data processing equipment from the Industrial Systems
Business to O thers based o n the technical characteristics o f the products. The Industrial Systems Business was removed and its prod-
uct categories were integrated into the following five business segments: Imaging Systems Business, Medical Systems Business, Life
Science Business, Informatio n and Communication Business, and O thers.
The following fiscal 2 0 05 segmental information is classified by the new business segment structure that was newly adopted in fis-
cal 2006:
