I gained immense satis-

For me, the O lympus
Europa Foundation
Science for Life,
which donates funding
to pro mote research in
the life sciences, is a
great example of
O lympus' social com-

It is o ur responsibility

I was pleased to see
O lympus make efforts
to raise funds for the
Sumatra Earthquake

CORPO RATE SOCIAL RESPO N SIBILITY > Since 1919, when O lympus was inspired to develop Japans first
microscope for the advancement of medicine in Japan, the found-
ing spirit of O lympus has always been to contribute to society. This
founding spirit still runs strong today, even after O lympus has
grown into a global corporation with 149 subsidiaries aro und the
world.
O lympus formulated its Social IN management principle in
1994. Social IN is o ur official declaration to strive to realize bet-
ter health and happiness for people by being integral members of
society, sharing common values, and pro po sing new ones through
our business. O lympus believes that a win-win relationship
between O lympus and its stakeholders, including shareholders,
customers, users, emplo yees, business partners, society at large,
and the global environment is what creates true value.
To clarify these ideas and accelerate efforts at CSR, O lympus
declared its participation in the United Nations Global Compact in
O ctober 2004, becoming the 22nd Japanese company to join. By
incorpo rating the 1 0 principles of the Global Compact into our cor-
porate activities, O lympus aims to be a leading global company
that contributes to the sustainable development of society.
O lympus collected com-
ments o n its CSR activi-
ties through a survey of
Group employees.
