Lancer Evolution VI
Mitsubis hi's Lancer Evolution model won seven out of 13 ral-
lies in the 1998 WRC calendar to capture the manufacturer's
championship for
the firs t time, while
ace-driver Tommi
Makinnen three-
peated in the dri-
ver's championship.
With its aggress ive
shape wrapped in
neat, rational lines, powered by a 2.0-liter DOHC intercooler /
turbocharged engine, and s porting the lates t in aero parts , the
race-ready production model brings the rally vers ion's world-
beating qualities to those looking for true road fun.
2000 Eclipse
The 2000 Eclipse epitomizes Mits ubis hi's fun-to-drive philos-
ophy. The sexy Geo-Mechanical des ign uses an aggress ive
cabin-forward lay-
out and an extend-
ed wheelbase to im-
prove handling sta-
bility, and provide
more relaxing occu-
pant comfort. The
current Mits ubis hi
Eclipse has captured leading share in the small specialty
class . The new 2000 Eclips e model has been designed for the
American market by Mits ubis hi Motors R&D of America, Inc.,
and received rave reviews at the New York International
Autoshow in April this year. Powered by a new 3-liter V6 en-
gine, mated to Mits ubis hi's Sportronic "s mart" automatic
trans mis sion, the new 2000 Eclips e is produced at MMMA
and will be launched on the US market in the summer of
1999, with plans calling for s ales of 55,000 in 2000.
Space Star
Mitsubis hi's s econd made-in-Europe model was developed to
a "go-anywhere, do-anything in s tyle" theme. Space Star pro-
jects a commanding presence, the result of s culpting graceful
aerodynamic contours into the no-nonsense proportions of a
European compact.
The s hort-and-wide
body dimensions
give outs tanding
maneuverability,
while the highboy
profile s trikes an
optimum balance
between generous interior space and wind-cheating aerody-
namics. Space Star brings together the road performance and
luxury of a s edan, the s pace efficiency of a wagon and the
versatility of a family car. The rear seats reflect this vers atility:
folding forward to create cavernous cargo space, or flat to pro-
vide a comfortable s leeping area. The 1.8-litre GDI engine de-
livers s uper-clean, economical and peppy performance for en-
vironment-aware Europe.
Toppo BJ
Des igned under the new Japanese minicar s ize and safety
regulations introduced in 1998, the Toppo BJ offers s ignifi-
cantly improved lev-
els of safety, com-
fort and fun-to-use
utility. The highboy
proportions provide
generous interior
space, as well as
excellent all-round
vis ibility. Toppo BJ is powered by either a leanburn engine for
maximum economy, or a 20-valve turbocharged unit for lively
performance.
