TurningthetideontheBarbie®brandisoneofourkeyinitiativesaswelooktogrowthecompany,
butequallyimportantiscontinuingtobuildourbrandsintheglobalmarket.In2005,international
grosssaleswereup5percent,primarilydrivenbyoursuccessintheAsia-PacificandLatinAmerica
regions.AsIhavesaidonpreviousoccasions,well-runconsumergoodscompaniesgenerallyderive
50percentoftheirsalesfrominternationalmarkets.Wearenowwellonourwaytoattainingthis
benchmarkasinternationalgrosssalescomprised44percentofour2005totalgrosssales,upfrom
31percentjustfiveyearsago.*
PLAYTOGETHER
CombiningtheformerlyseparateMattelGirlsandBoysBrandsandFisher-PriceBrandsdivisions
isanimportantstepinplayingtogetherbycreatinganorganizationalstructurethatfurtherfacilitates
best-practicesharingandteamwork.Playingtogether,however,goesbeyondinternalreporting
relationships.For2006,wearerecommittingtofosterindustry-leadingretailcustomerpartnerships
withastreamlinedU.S.salesleadershipteamthatemphasizescollaboration,cooperation,category
expertiseandwin/wingrowth.

Fewthingsspeaktothevaluesimbeddedinourcorporateculturemorethanthephilanthropicworks
Mattelanditsemployeevolunteerssupportaroundtheworldeveryday.Wecelebratedthemuch
anticipatedre-launchoftheMattelChildren’sFoundationin2005withnewprogramsthatincludedglobal
grantmakingforthefirsttimeintheFoundation’shistoryandexcitingnewcommunitypartnerships.
In2005,MatteldonatedapproximatelythreemilliontoysandtheFoundationawarded72domesticand
34internationalgrants,fundingprogramsinvirtuallyeverycountryinwhichweoperate,includingMexico
withfundingforTheSerHumanoHome,ahomeforchildrenwithAIDSthatprovideshealthprograms,
psychotherapyandeducationthroughtheater;theUnitedKingdomwithfundingforThamesValley
AdventurePlaygroundAssociation,whichprovidesspecializedplaygroundequipmentforchildren
withdisabilities;AustraliawithfundingfortheStarlightChildren’sFoundation,whichprovidesmobile
entertainmentunitsdesignedtowheelrightuptohospitalbedswiththeaimofprovidingapositive
distractiontoseriouslyillandhospitalizedchildren;andIndiawithfundingforthePrathamIndia
MumbaiInitiative,whichassistsincreatinglibrariestoenhancethereadingandlearningabilities
ofeconomicallyunderprivilegedchildreninbothruralandurbanareasacrossMumbai.
