LEVERAGING
OUR MOMENTUM
Dick’s moves ahead with the same qualities that have fueled our
progress since we were founded more than six decades ago
a true passion for our business that motivates us to deliver excellent
performance, an agile operating approach that enables us to
effectively manage and leverage changing market conditions, and
a singular focus on the long term that drives profitable growth and
yields meaningful results for our shareholders.
In the coming year, we plan to leverage these qualities to achieve
continued growth. We will continue to exercise the diligent expense
and debt management required to maintain our strong balance
sheet. We will seek the most promising opportunities to build market
share in our highly fragmented industry, including prudently
expanding our store network, growing our e-commerce business
and integrating it more closely with our brick-and-mortar presence,
and developing our Golf Galaxy business. We will also continue to
drive our operating margins through carefully planned inventory
management, store enhancement and regionalization strategies,
as well as by further developing our private brands, leveraging our
strong vendor relationships, and gaining increased leverage from
our growing sales levels. We are confident that these measures will
enable Dick’s Sporting Goods to meet the challenges of 2011 and
maintain our position as an industry leader.
BUILDING A PLATFORM
FOR GROWTH
2010
Developed our e-commerce platform,
setting the stage for significant growth of
this channel in the future
Completed a detailed store growth analysis
that identified significant growth potential,
including the opportunity to open a total of
at least 900 Dick’s Sporting Goods stores in
the U.S. alone
2009
Drew on our third distribution center in
Atlanta, driving additional improvements
in inventory management
Converted the Chick’s Sporting Goods
stores that we acquired in 2007 into Dick’s
Sporting Goods stores, firmly positioning
our brand in Southern California
Laid plans to move into a new headquarters
building in 2010, which united our store
support operations under one roof,
generating efficiencies and positioning
Dick’s for continued growth
2008
Opened a third distribution center in
Atlanta, increasing our total network
service capacity
Enhanced our point-of-sale system
to expedite transactions, create new
efficiencies and gather customer data
for future marketing use
Integrated Golf Galaxy’s headquarters into
our own, creating new synergies and setting
the stage for future growth
