SALES
In fiscal year 1998, barnesandnoble.com’s sales rose 381 percent, to $70.2 millio n. In every quarter
of the year, sales showed dramatic growth. In the first quarter, sales rose to $9.4 millio n, a 14
percent increase over sales of $8.2 million for the fourth quarter of fiscal 1997. Sales in the second
quarter, $12.5 million, grew 33 percent fro m the first quarter of 1998. In the third quarter, sales rose
38 percent to $17.2 millio n from the second quarter of 1998. Fo r the fourth quarter, sales were $31.1
millio n, an 81 percent jump fro m 1998’s third quarter.
