Interview with leaders of Wacom
Wacom’s operations span across
the globe, and we interview one of
such leaders in this column. For this
year’s annual report, Alex Wang,
director of Supply Chain Manage-
ment in China, talks about this
organizations missions and objec-
tives.
1. What is the goal of Supply Chain Management
(SCM) and where is the team based?
Wacom’s supply chain is a very dynamic group. We
aim at being highly responsive and flexible in order to
satisfy the needs of our customers. Our supply chain
team is located in Japan, Taiwan und China. SCM
works closely with suppliers and internal, cross-
functional teams to optimize cost management,
cycle-through timings as well as accurate and state-
of-the art delivery of products and services.
2. In which regions are suppliers based?
Suppliers come from across Japan, the US and Asia.
3. What about SCM’s other partners and how do they
influence SCM processes?
Wacom’s EMS and ODM partners have profound
expertise so as to grow their and our business. They
can leverage their know how in various technologies by
integrating Wacom’s unique pen solutions. Therefore
our supply chain is highly responsive to the changing,
diverse and unpredictable customer demands. At the
same time, we can minimize the risk of supply disrup-
tions at the back end.
4. What is unique about Wacom’s SCM operations and
challenges?
Innovative products with an unpredictable demand
and an evolving supply chain process will always face
major challenges. Due to ever shorter product life
cycles, the pressure on adjusting and adapting our
supply chain strategy in a dynamic fashion is ever
increasing. The whole team is aligned with the
company’s medium-term strategy. We are also always
ready to adapt to changes by responding instanta-
neously while keeping costs down.
5. What is the team’s motto or work style?
‘Do the right thing first time round’, is the key guidance
for the team. Whether we face conflicts in our work, or
our communication, or our growth as a team, we have
one, and only one rule by which to come to a resolu-
tion: Can this satisfy our customers and benefit our
shareholders? No legacy procedures or out-of-date
processes can stop the team to make a creative break-
through and be successful. We work hard and do not
compromise, so, as a team, we are like a big family.
Despite the fact that our team members are from differ-
ent countries and cultures, we have learnt to respect
each other’s differences and have build trust. At one
event recently, we were singing together – and what a
warm family we are.
