The Company provides additional financial guarantees to finance companies on behalf of certain customers. The majority of these guarantees are
for an indefinite period of time, where the Company would be required to perform if the customer is in default with the finance company related
to purchases made from the Company. The Company reviews the underlying credit for these guarantees on at least an annual basis. As of
January 31, 2014 and 2013, the outstanding amount of guarantees under these arrangements totaled $13.4 million and $31.3 million ,
respectively. The Company believes that, based on historical experience, the likelihood of a material loss pursuant to the above guarantees is
remote.
NOTE 14 — SEGMENT INFORMATION
Tech Data operates predominately in a single industry segment as a distributor of technology products, logistics management, and other value-
added services. While the Company operates primarily in one industry, it is managed based on geographic segments: the Americas (including
North America and South America) and Europe. The Company assesses performance of and makes decisions on how to allocate resources to its
operating segments based on multiple factors including current and projected operating income and market opportunities. The Company does not
consider stock-based compensation expense in assessing the performance of its operating segments, and therefore the Company is reporting
stock-based compensation expense as a separate amount. The accounting policies of the segments are the same as those described in Note 1 -
Business and Summary of Significant Accounting Policies.
