synergies from the acquisition of Gyrus Group

the integration of Terumo Corporation’s material pro-
cessing technology and Olympus’s technology as part
of efforts to optimize endoscopes and endotherapy
products and thereby reinforce our endotherapy
device lineup.
In the newly reclassified and named Life Science
and Industrial Systems Business, we will reinforce
our existing business foundations as we strive to
establish a marketing structure that offers products
that customers prefer and thus generate profit. In
the microscope field, we will strengthen our earnings
structure and business culture in the three key fields
of biological microscopes, living-cell imaging devices
and industrial devices, while establishing a new
growth strategy in the promising automated pathol-
ogy field. In the non-destructive testing device field,
we will expand our business scope to encompass
all industrial inspection devices, including inspec-
tion, measurement and analysis devices, by closely
assessing investment efficiency as we pursue busi-
ness growth.
Our final strategy focuses are the Information &
Communication Business segment and new business
activities. In the Information & Communication
Business, we are concentrating on ITX Corporation’s
telecommunications-related businesses and striving
to reinforce our competitiveness in this field. In new
