TIM GOKEY
President
Retail Tax Services
H&R Block serves nearly 16 million U.S.
tax clients a year in company-owned and
franchise retail locations, and we are
committed to growing this client base.
Although competition has increased in
recent years in our industry, our experienced
tax professionals have enabled us to maintain
the highest client loyalty among large tax
preparation firms.
To serve a growing client base, we will focus
on our tax professionals and on meeting
the unique needs of each of our key client
segments, including those seeking expertise
and those looking for speed of refund.
Guided by the principles of great service,
convenience, the best tax professionals,
standing behind our clients, and products
aligned with our advocacy mission, we will
grow by further increasing loyalty among
our current tax clients and by attracting
new clients to H&R Block.

Our expertise, commitment to standing behind clients, and financial services beyond taxes
differentiate H&R Block from its competitors. We have a unique capability to help clients
through our breadth of offerings under the H&R Block brand:
Clients know and trust H&R Block for the consistently superior tax advice and preparation
services we provide in our offices and via digital solutions.
– We’re steadily building H&R Block Financial Advisors, which helps clients – many referred
from our tax professionals – meet their financial goals.
Our H&R Block Mortgage unit serves individual borrowers with home loans, especially
refinancings that unlock cash from home equity.
New in fiscal 2007, H&R Block Bank will make affordable banking products and services
available across the company’s client base.
The power of the H&R Block brand is compelling. It’s our most important asset.
ADVANCES IN TAX SERVICES STRENGTHEN BUSINESS BASE
In 2006, H&R Block Tax Services further developed the expertise of its professionals, increased
the convenience of its locations, and strengthened the market position of its digital business.
Our focus on providing a superior client experience starts with having the best tax
professionals. We recruit talented people, give them unequaled training, and support them
with staff, technology and other resources. We work to retain our top tax professionals so
their expertise can benefit next year’s clients.
We improved tax professional training with more computer-based courses. One timely
course explained how to ensure that clients victimized by the 2005 hurricanes, and those
who made contributions to help victims, would receive special tax benefits enacted
by Congress.
We’ve also been highlighting tax advice tailored for more than 300 occupations. This
know-how demonstrates H&R Block’s expertise and builds client confidence. Tax professionals
reached into their communities and delivered occupational advice as part of National Tax
Advice Day in January 2006, an event we inaugurated. They also advised taxpayers on new
guidelines for claiming child-related benefits, the new hurricane-related tax benefits, and
other important tax issues.
