Combat Systems
Combat Systems’ products and services continue to
fulfill key requirements for ground and air forces.
Our vehicle platforms are essential ground-force
assets for many customers, and programs to
maintain their capability and affordability are
an important element of our business. For the
U.S. Army’s Stryker combat vehicle, for example,
we began production of a double-V-hulled variant
in 2010 which provides better protection to
soldiers from explosive devices. We continued
modernizing the Abrams tank fleet through the
System Enhancement Package program, delivering
a digital platform with enhanced command-and-
control systems and improved armor. In addition,
Combat Systems provides logistics support,
maintenance, repair and reset of Abrams tanks,
Stryker vehicles and Mine-Resistant, Ambush-
Protected (MRAP) vehicles, as well as replenishing
ammunition and other supplies. International
demand continued to be strong in 2010 and several
foreign military sales contracts were executed
for Abrams tanks and light armored vehicles for
U.S. allies. Our European business received
several awards in 2010, to include supplying
additional EAGLE wheeled vehicles to Germany and
ammunition to the Spanish defense forces. Combat
Systems also partnered with Information Systems
and Technology to win the U.K. Ministry of Defence
Specialist Vehicle program. In addition, we were
awarded significant orders for weapons systems
and vehicle armor in 2010, underscoring the high
value our customers place on these mission-critical
products.
Combat Systems manufactures, upgrades and resets
a variety of combat vehicles at the Lima, Ohio, Joint
Services Manufacturing Center (above), including
Abrams tanks and Stryker infantry combat vehicles
(right). With a strong portfolio of product offerings
that includes weapons systems, ammunition (left) and
medium-weight armored wheeled vehicles like the
EAGLE (middle), Combat Systems continues to meet
the evolving needs of customers around the world for
mission-critical products and services.
