8. Earnings per share (basic and diluted)
Earnings per share is calculated by dividing the profit attributable to the shareholders of Cathay Pacific of
HK$3,150 million (2013: HK$2,620 million) by the daily weighted average number of shares in issue throughout
the year of 3,934 million (2013: 3,934 million) shares.

The second interim dividend is not accounted for in 2014 because it had not been declared at the year end date. The
