Lifestyle-Related Products
A decrease in the number of new
housing starts and intensified price
competition resulted in a stagnant
market for lifestyle-related products.
In the midst of this environment,
sales were virtually unchanged from
the previous fiscal year. However, due
to a reduction in labor and other
expenses, profits grew substantially,
putting this segment in the black
for the first time in three years.
Because of these factors, sales
totaled ¥46.9 billion (US$0.38 bil-
lion), a 0.2% increase over the pre-
vious fiscal year, and operating
income reached ¥0.9 billion
(US$7.2 million) compared with
the previous fiscal year’s operating
loss of ¥1.0 billion.
Difficult market conditions are
projected to continue; however,
YAMAHA will strive for improved
profits through cost reductions and
the introduction of a differentiated
product line during the next fiscal
year.
