World Fuel Services (WFS) markets fuel and related
services to commercial airlines, cargo carriers, private
aircraft and fixed base operators (FBOs), as well as the
United States and foreign governments at more than
3,100 locations around the world. The aviation segment
experienced significant growth in 2011 and reported year
over year gains in both volume and gross profit. We
expanded our global network and embedded experienced
industry talent in the United States, United Kingdom
and Singapore. We continued to utilize our supply
competencies to strategically enhance our value offerings
at both domestic and international airports.
Our commercial aviation business performed well, with
significant growth coming from our core resale, fuel
management and government offerings. In March, WFS
acquired Nordic Camp Supply, which gives us advanced
logistics expertise in complex business environments.
We continue to evolve in the general aviation marketplace.
In April, we completed the acquisition of Ascent Aviation,
a leading distributor of aviation fuel and deicing fluids to
more than 450 FBOs throughout North America. Combined
with the prior acquisitions of Western Petroleum and
The Hiller Group, WFS has quickly established a leading
market position at FBOs in the United States.
Our market offerings were also strengthened by the
acquisition of three software companies. Along with our
AVCARD transaction processing platform, we deepened
our ability to serve one of the broadest and most diverse
customer bases in the marketplace.
Building on another record year, we are focused on
continued organic growth of both our commercial and
general aviation offerings, and expanding our portfolio
of customer and supplier relationships.
