In order to build more franchises targeted to avid gamers, THQ significantly increased its investment in its internal
development organization. Through acquisition and organic growth, THQ product development staff more than
doubled to more than 900 people as of March 31, 2005, from just over 400 people a year ago. The company plans
to use its studios to increase ownership of proprietary technology and intellectual properties.
As the industry embarks on a new generation of consoles, THQ plans to release new intellectual properties from
internal studios Relic Entertainment and Volition, Inc. and has additional next-generation development efforts
underway at Concrete Games, Heavy Iron Studios and Rainbow Studios.
