Corporate Social Responsibility
Pioneer seeks to fulfill its corporate social responsibilities through
dialogues with various stakeholders including customers, shareholders,
employees, vendors and the members of local communities. At the same
time, we conduct various corporate citizenship activities that make the
most of our strengths, with the aim of enhancing our corporate value
while earning the trust of society.
“Listen through the Body” Concerts
Pioneer invests some of its greatest corporate citizenship efforts in “Listen through the
Body” concerts. These concerts bring the joy of music to hearing-impaired people
through the vibrating acoustics systems developed by the Company which convert
sounds into vibrations. Since 1992, Pioneer has held these concerts in Japan and over-
seas in cooperation with volunteers consisting of employees and their family members.
In February 2010, Pioneer held a “Listen through the Body” concert in Kawasaki City,
where it is headquartered, at an auditorium that symbolizes the City’s aspirations to
become known as “Kawasaki, the City of Music.” The event was held after securing the
participation of student performers from a college of music in Kawasaki City.
Overseas Corporate Citizenship Activities
Pioneer Manufacturing (Thailand) Co., Ltd. is actively engaged in local environmental protec-
tion activities. Every six months, approximately 30 employees from the company participate
in tree-planting activities in mangrove forests. Around 50 employees participate in regular
cleanup events at temple ruins in the Historic City of Ayutthaya, a UNESCO World Heritage
Site. Additionally, in November 2009, Pioneer Technology (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. received the
Caring Award from the Johor State Government in Malaysia. This commendation is offered as
a token of gratitude to organizations and other groups that have made lasting contributions to
society. Pioneer Technology (Malaysia) received the award for the second time in recognition
of its broad range of corporate citizenship activities.
Pioneer Achieves “Zero Emission of Landfill Waste” at
Production Sites Worldwide
Pioneer conducts “Zero Emission of Landfill Waste” activities primarily at its production
sites worldwide. These activities aim to recycle more than 99% of all wastes generated by
a given business site so as to eliminate landfill disposal. In September 2009, Pioneer
achieved “Zero Emission of Landfill Waste” status at all eligible sites overseas, following
the achievement of the same status at all sites in Japan in 2005. Pioneer conducts a wide
range of activities at various business sites. These activities include reusing dishes and
utensils at cafeterias, making effective use of food waste at pig farms, and changing the
processing method for sludge, which was previously disposed of as landfill waste. Going
forward, Pioneer will continue to promote these activities throughout the Group.
