Consolidated Edison, Inc. is among the nations leading energy companies, providing electricity, natural gas and steam to
customers in metropolitan New York City, Westchester, Orange and Rockland counties in New York, and portions of New
Jersey and Pennsylvania.
The company provides a wide range of energy-related products and services to its customers through six subsidiaries:
Consolidated Edison Company of New York Inc., a regulated utility providing electric, gas and steam service to New York
City and Westchester County, New York; Orange and Rockland Utilities Inc., a regulated utility serving customers in
southeastern New York State, northern New Jersey and northeastern Pennsylvania; Con Edison Solutions, a retail energy
services company; Con Edison Energy, a wholesale energy supply company; Con Edison Development, an infrastructure
development company; and Con Edison Communications, a telecommunications infrastructure company.
On October 13, 1999, NU announced that it would be merging with Consolidated Edison, Inc. The combined company
will be the nations largest distribution utility with over 5 million electric customers and will serve 1.4 million gas customers
and 2,000 steam customers in urban and suburban communities with a population of more than 13 million.
The new combined company will have a strong regional foundation with the size, financial resources and capabilities
to invest in infrastructure, develop advanced technologies and respond to the growing energy and telecommunications
needs of its customers.
