• Wireline/Broadband
CenturyTel provides wireline-based com-
munications services to customers in small-
to-mid-size cities in 21 states. Our goal is
to be the broadband provider of choice by
delivering the advanced voice, data and
Internet communications services our
customers need at the best possible value,
and by striving to make every customer
experience a positive one. Nearly 79 percent
of our local exchange access lines are broad-
band-enabled. We make consistent, strate-
gic investments in our network assets –
shortening loops, deploying fiber deeper
into our network and implementing
advanced technologies – so that we
can continue to strengthen our broad-
band position.
• Fiber
Our regional fiber network, LightCore, is
one of the most extensive fiber networks in
the central United States. It covers more
than 10,700 route miles. LightCore links doz-
ens of smaller markets with large hub cities,
providing competitive access to key band-
width aggregation points.
• Competitive Markets
In our competitive local exchange business,
we operate metro fiber networks in 20 mar-
kets in the Midwest and South. As in other
markets, we provide bundled services to
enable our customers to receive the
services they need at the best possible
value, with the convenience of one bill.
• Madison River exchanges and fiber
In December 2006, CenturyTel announced
the acquisition of Madison River Communi-
cations Corp. Madison River serves more
than 170,000 access lines on its 99 percent
broadband-enabled network and includes
access to a 2,400 route mile fiber network
that will be complementary to CenturyTel’s
existing network.
