5 minutes...
The tape arrives at the station. Avid NewsCutter
digitizes the footage and simultaneously records
it onto an Avid Unity MediaNet shared storage
network, so everyone can access the footage at
the same time. Using NewsCutter, a promotional
clip is quickly created and sent to an Avid
AirSPACE server for a commercial break while
the main story is cut in another editing room.
2 minutes, 30 seconds...
Suddenly, there are new details. Additional
footage comes from the field via satellite,
and you decide to lead the newscast with this
footage. With the entire newscast programmed
into the Avid iNEWS newsroom system and
all systems connected through the Avid iNEWS
Control System, you bump the breaking story to
the top of the newscast and Avid Unity for News
reflects the change across the entire system so
everyone is informed.
10, 9, 8, 7, 6…
Avid Unity TransferManager sends the main
story to playback five times faster than it
would take if you were using videotape while
Avid Unity ProEncode makes streaming media
versions for the Web. The Control System
reflects that the story is ready for air. As the
newscast begins, a reporter pitches the story,
AirSPACE serves the content to thousands of
viewers, and a Trilligent Cluster quietly streams
the story to your station’s website.

[MAKE]
We’ve pioneered the industry of nonlinear content creation tools [or the ability
to use a computer to digitally manipulate media] since 1989 and continue
to be recognized globally as the industry-leading supplier of media solutions.
Avid’s comprehensive family of digital editing and finishing systems for film and video, music and audio,
3D graphics and animation, and broadcast is instantly familiar to industry professionals. Projects created
with Avid products have received numerous awards, including industry-celebrated Oscar®, Grammy®, and
Emmy®statuettes. Avid also offers a complete line of media products designed to expand the use of video
in corporate, industrial, and educational markets. As a result, creative professionals can communicate more
effectively with video on the Web, with DVD, and with other media.
Traditionally, Avid’s revolutionary products were digital “islands” or tools designed to address specific and
individual content creation needs. Today, Avid is in the process of expanding interoperability throughout its
entire product line, enabling the family of Avid products to connect together across both local and wide
area networks to offer a more integrated approach and meet today’s increasingly challenging media
demands.
[MANAGE]
By sharing media management and storage assets between multiple
Avid products and among geographically dispersed users, our customers realize
improved workflow and greater operating efficiency.
Avid offers a family of storage and networking solutions specially designed to support all of the Avid
products that help to make media. The Avid Unity media network is an integrated group of shared storage
and distributed computing products that are designed to improve creative collaboration and workflow by
connecting digital media creation environments to one another. Avid Unity allows efficient and flexible
handling of digital video and audio content, and facilitates simultaneous media processing and management
tasks. The AvidProNet Review & Approval service, which launched in early 2001, allows Avid users to take
advantage of the first Internet browser-based application for frame-accurate review and approval of video
content, which can be integrated directly into an Avid workflow.
