For interactive pen displays that allow users to directly enter data on an LCD screen
with a pen, Wacom achieved almost 40% year-over-year sales growth. In the
graphics eld particularly in the United States, we observed a clear trend of
professional designers who had formerly used the Intuos series now switching to
interactive Cintiq series pen displays. In addition, the DTX series, another of our
interactive pen display products, became widely used for educational activities in
U.S. schools and in the medical care eld, including dental clinics in Japan.
In particular, our Cintiq21UX series of interactive pen displays for professional
designers has been highly acclaimed for its excellent functionality and design;
the series received international recognition by winning the reddot Design
Award in Europe. Interactive pen displays are currently used in a broad range
of areas, from design, medical care and education to ordering systems, call
centers and conference systems, with an even greater variety of applications
expected in the future.
Wacom was selected as the winner of the rst “Disclosure Newcomer Award, a part of
the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s project for recognizing listed companies in 2006. Out of 96
companies newly listed in 2005, two were selected by the Tokyo Stock Exchange to
receive the award for the quality of their disclosure systems. Among the candidates,
Wacom was especially recognized for its proactive approach to disclosure in its
Summary of Consolidated Financial Results as well as providing Business Reports with
clearly presented gures and easy-to-understand visual images.
Lenovo launched the high-performance ThinkPad X60 Tablet as the world’s rst product
to incorporate Penabled Dual Touch, an advanced sensor technology developed by
Wacom. Penabled Dual Touch is a system solution that combines our electromagnetic
induction sensor and the touch sensor. This technology enables users to input data into
PCs using both an electronic pen and nger touch on the screen. We expect demand
for this input system to grow with the widening use of Windows Vista and Tablet PCs.

Microsoft Corporation released Windows Vista, the rst new version of their
operating system (OS) in ve years. This new OS incorporates the ability to enter
data using a pen and tablet as a new standard feature in addition to the
existing entry system using a keyboard and mouse. By simply connecting a pen
tablet to their PCs, users can take advantage of a number of unique pen-input
functions that were previously unavailable using a mouse. These functions include digital ink
memos, recognition of handwritten characters, and a snipping function that allows users to easily
cut out portions of data on the screen using a pen. With the release of Windows Vista, the status of
pen tablets changes dramatically from being the exclusive tool of graphics professionals to a
standard PC data-entry device for everyone, both in the oce and the home.
