Integrated Defense Systems (IDS), with sales of $3.5 bil-
lion, strengthened its position as an industry-leading
mission systems integrator in 2004. Significant awards
and solid performance on existing programs contributed
strongly to the performance of the business.
The first production of the Terminal High-
Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) radar was delivered to
the Missile Defense Agency and tested successfully. The
primary sensor of the nations Ballistic Missile Defense
System, the THAAD radar is designed to detect short-
to-medium-range missiles and guide interceptors to
destroy them.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries engaged IDS to
upgrade Japans Patriot™ system. The contract covers the
software, training and technical assistance required to
upgrade the system to current U.S. standards.
The U.S. Navy chose IDS to be the lead systems
integrator for the AN/BYG-1, a next-generation combat
system that will integrate tactical and weapons control
and tactical network subsystems for U.S. submarines.
IDS also will be the U.S. Navy’s sole-source provider of
light- and heavy-weight torpedo weapon systems and
associated support.
A Raytheon Six Sigma™ project – the “Radar
Affordability Project – resulted in a 30 percent reduction
in ballistic missile defense system radar unit costs.
By reconfiguring already fielded systems,
Raytheon developed the Surface Launched-Advanced
Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile (SLAMRAAM™)
system – an interoperable state-of-the-art air defense sys-
tem that provides warfighters with a more affordable,
more supportable, more lethal system configured to their
needs.
The U.S. Department of Defense asked IDS
to develop a demonstration site for Project Athena for
homeland protection. Project Athena will integrate
disparate data from radar, sonar and surveillance sources to
detect, track and identify potential threats in harbor areas.
A test of an engineering development model
proved the environmental, detection and tracking
performance of the business’ X-band AN/SPY-3 multi-
function radar.
Raytheon IDS will continue to focus on speed
and agility to meet the needs of our warfighters.

Raytheon is developing for the U.S. Navy’s DD(X) multi-mission destroyer
program leading-edge technologies that will be used on the family of future
U.S. Navy ships. All major engineering development models (EDMs) continue
to meet or exceed the customer’s stringent warfighting and performance
requirements. Superior customer satisfaction is evident in award fees exceeding
90 percent in 2004. Led by DD(X), the U.S. Navy’s standard command and
control initiative will provide battlespace interoperability and a common
command and control system for use across the joint and coalition forces.
