ByapplyingourprovendisciplinestoourintegrationofRemington,wecompletedtheprocess
aheadofschedule,generatingapproximately$35millioninannualcostsavings.Atthesame
time,wecapitalizedonthestrengthoftheRemingtonbrandtodrivean18percentincreasein
Remington’s revenues. We expect Remington’s products to be our fastest growing product
lineoverthenextseveralyears.
CompletingOurGlobalization
While we devoted significant management attention to the integration of Remington, we
simultaneouslyexecutedtwosmaller,strategicallyimportantacquisitionsthatcompletedour
globalizationandconsolidatedtheRayovacbrandworldwide.Combinedwithouracquisitionof
Vartain2002,theseacquisitionshaveprovidedRayovacwithasignificantpresenceinNorth
America,LatinAmerica,EuropeandAsiaPacific.
InMarch,weacquired85percentofNingboBaowangBatteryCompanyinNinghai,China.
Ningbo Baowang provides us with a modern manufacturing facility that we believe to be
amongthe lowestcostbatterymanufacturingoperationsintheworld. Thisfacilitywill have
manufacturing capacity of up to a billion batteries per year with access to export markets
aroundtheglobe.Inaddition,BaowangisaleadingbrandinChina,soouracquisitionaddedan
establishednametoourgrowingbrandportfolio.Italsoprovideduswithanestablishedsales
and marketing organization that willhelp us to penetratetherapidly growingbatterymarket
inChina.
InMay, weacquiredMicrolite,alow-costbatterymanufacturerheadquarteredinSãoPaulo,
Brazil.MicroliteisBrazil’sleadingbatterycompanywith$53millioninnetsalesanda49percent
marketshare.Rayovac’sacquisitionofMicroliteprovideduswithnewregionalmanufacturing
capabilitiesandanevenstrongernumber-onemarketpositioninLatinAmerica.Moreover,since
MicroliteownedtheRayovacbrandnameinBrazil,thisacquisitionsecuredourrighttotheRayovac
nameworldwide,enablingustopresentaunitedfronttoourcustomersaroundtheglobe.
WearenowworkingdiligentlytointegrateNingboandMicrolite,applyingmanyofthesame
disciplinesthatweusedinourintegrationsofVartaandRemington.AtNingbo,weareupgrad-
ingfinancialandreportingsystems;expandingalkalinebatterycapacity;improvingthequality
andperformanceofitsproducts;andexpandingitssalesanddistributionnetwork.AtMicrolite,
wehavehiredexperiencednewleadershipandstrengthenedthecapitalstructure;wearenow
