Electric Motors / Other
In electric motors, through selection
of priority businesses into which man-
agement resources are to be
concentrated, Matsushita is focusing
on the development of products that
can take advantage of the Company’s
black-box technologies such as hydro-
dynamic bearing technology. The
Company will also strengthen its man-
agement structure through production
efficiency improvements and integra-
tion of production locations.
In other areas of components and
devices, a notable achievement was
the development of a unique oxygen
enrichment membrane technology
that increases oxygen concentration.
In the future, Matsushita will apply
this black-box technology to other
environment-related products in order
to develop new business opportunities.
JVC
In line with the Company’s new
domain-based, global consolidated
management policy implemented
through Groupwide business and orga-
nizational restructuring, Matsushita has
included overseas subsidiaries of Victor
Company of Japan, Ltd. in its consoli-
dated reporting. From fiscal 2004,
Matsushita discloses information of
JVC and its group companies as a new
“JVC” segment.
JVC, a preeminent manufacturer
of AV hardware and software, has
implemented comprehensive business
restructuring initiatives over the past
few years, achieving a turnaround in
profit. For the future, JVC will shift its
management focus to its growth strat-
egy, aiming to increase market share
and brand value through the compa-
nys’ “Only One products” slogan,
which refers to differentiated products
centered on the five main product cat-
egories: high-resolution displays,
digital high density storage, network
AV systems, components, and soft-
ware media. JVC will thus focus
efforts on creating a new communica-
tion style through sound and images.

Factory Automation
In the FA business, Matsushita will
provide customers with total solutions
in manufacturing processes, semi-
conductor mounting and electronic
components mounting, with circuit
manufacturing technology as a nucle-
us, aiming at revolutionizing the
manufacture of electronics equipment
that follows trends toward downsizing
and digitization.
Matsushita is building new core
businesses in the FA area by introduc-
ing the world’s fastest modular
mounters, augmenting its lineup of
high-growth-potential semiconductor
mounters, and developing pharmaceu-
tical support robots that feature unique
image sensor and high-precision tech-
nologies. The Company also seeks
new growth through global business
expansion by intensifying sales activi-
ties, especially in China, which is
quickly becoming the world’s manu-
facturing base. In other industrial-use
equipment, Matsushita is strengthen-
ing marketing efforts, centered on the
automotive industry, of fully digital
automatic welding machines that
allow for superior welds over a variety
of materials.
Other
Matsushita is engaged in and develop-
ing a variety of service-related
businesses, including eNet business,
through which the Company provides
services and content, using home elec-
tronics and mobile equipment as
platforms, in an effort to help realize a
ubiquitous networking society.
