A Super Manufacturing Company, which is a business model
Matsushita seeks to attain, delivers added value to its cus-
tomers through creation of a total value chain, from
components and devices to finished products and services. To
attain this goal, the Company is pursuing several growth
strategies, including the introduction of innovative products
that will position Matsushita as a global leader, the develop-
ment of black-box technologies underlying such products, and
the strengthening of overseas operations.
The following special features highlight two key factors that
will drive the Company’s growth strategy: (1) synergy
between finished products and components and devices, and
(2) strengthening sales through a unified global brand.
Matsushita has achieved synergies between finished prod-
ucts and components and devices through a broad range of
key device technologies, including system LSIs for digital AV
equipment; multilayer printed circuit boards (ALIVH), light-
touch switches and capacitors for cellular phones; charge
coupled devices (CCDs) and batteries for digital still cameras;
and display panels for PDP TVs. Special Feature 1 highlights
the synergy achieved between DVD recorders, one of the
products that support growth in the Company’s AVC business,
and their underlying devices, with a focus on system LSIs.
