Components & Devices
Segment revenues declined 5% year over year to ¥768.0
billion. This was attributable to impacts of the Great East
Japan Earthquake and fl ooding in Thailand on hard disk
drives (HDDs) and small and medium-sized LCDs.
Segment profi t also contracted 20% year over year to
¥39.4 billion owing mainly to the drop in HDD sales.
Note: The Components & Devices segment was abolished on April 1, 2012
due to the sale of HDD operations and other factors.
Fiscal 2011 Topics
쎲 The small and medium-sized LCD business of Hitachi
Displays, Ltd. was transferred to Japan Display Inc. in
March 2012.
쎲 The HDD operations of Hitachi Global Storage
Technologies, Inc. were transferred to U.S.-based Western
Digital Corporation in March 2012.
