of Technology (MIT)
A neuroscientist herself, MIT’s 16th President Susan Hockfield has
a strong understanding of the vital role that science plays in today’s
world. Under her leadership, MIT has agreed to serve as the national
program office for the Amgen Scholars program. Helming the national
program office is Christopher Jones, an MIT alumnus with dual master’s
degrees in nuclear engineering and in technology and policy.
Robby Moorefield, Amgen Fellow and eighth-grade science teacher,
Henderson Middle School
A chemical engineering graduate of North Carolina State University,
Moorefield teaches eighth-grade science in Henderson, North Carolina.
As one of the 50 select Amgen Fellows from Teach For America’s corps
who teach math or science, Moorefield introduces his students to the
fundamentals of science with hands-on lab experiments and interactive
lesson plans.
