Meeting the Challenge
of Leadership
Every day, the people of Aetna are working with individuals and
families, employers, physicians, hospitals, and other health care
professionals all across America. Were creating innovative approaches
to help them cope with the challenges they face in achieving
affordable, high-quality health care.
Two important trends have emerged: Employers want to improve
the effectiveness of their health benefits spending in the face of
rising costs, and consumers want more involvement in influencing
their own health and financial security.
The consumerism trend involves more than a new plan design with
a new label. There is no single response that meets all needs. Rather,
we see a robust approach that includes a full complement of product
and service options. Information to help sort through options and
make the right decisions is critical.
In response to these trends, weve set three goals:
Make health care more accessible and affordable.
Help people make well-informed decisions about health and
financial security.
Improve the quality and effectiveness of health care.
