Cardinal Health 2008 Annual Report
“MedMined services have enabled the Infection Prevention and Control staff to
broaden our impact by providing data to each nursing unit that helps them set goals
and make significant reductions in infections on these units. Nothing I’ve encountered
in my 25 years of experience has had an impact on infection prevention efforts as much
as data mining. I would not want to work in a facility without this tool.
MedMined services
MultiCare Health System, in Tacoma, Wash., uses MedMined™ services
system-wide to help track and reduce infections. After a spike in urinary
tract infections (UTIs) in one unit in 2007, Tacoma General began
an initiative to share information and create a culture of “infection
consciousness” within their nursing sta that resulted in a 34 percent
reduction in UTIs in the unit and 15 percent hospital-wide. After
implementing a similar program, MultiCare’s Allenmore Hospital has
seen a 40 percent reduction in hospital-wide UTIs.
ChloraPrep® products
At Wishard Memorial Hospital, in Indianapolis, Ind.,
ChloraPrep® products helped reduce bloodstream
infections by nearly 70 percent and saved an
estimated $350,000 in annual costs by providing a
clinically superior way to disinfect the first five layers
of skin prior to inserting a central line catheter.
