J. Thomas Glenn
Chairman of the Board
Regional Member Director,
Southeast Region
Glenn and his family own 14 Ace stores
in Tennessee and Georgia. He earned
an accounting degree from the
University of Georgia in 1981 and a
master’s of business administration
degree from Duke University in 1984.
A Certified Public Accountant, Glenn
worked in the consulting division of
Arthur Andersen in Charlotte, N.C.,
before joining Ace of Chattanooga
in 1987.
Richard F. Baalmann, Jr.
Regional Member Director,
Midwest Region
(Chairman of Audit Committee)
Baalmann is the president of Bramm
Inc. and related companies, which
operate four Ace Hardware stores in
the St. Louis area. Baalmann earned an
associates degree in liberal arts in 1980
from St. Louis Community College at
Meramec and went on to St. Louis
University, where he studied business
administration.
Eric R. Bibens II
Regional Member Director,
East Region
Bibens is president of Bibens Home
Center, Inc., a four-store hardware
and lumber and building materials
chain in Vermont. He began his career
in the hardware industry in 1978 after
working for a plywood wholesaler and
attending Northeastern University
in Boston.
William J. Bolton
Non-Member Director
(Chairman of Finance Committee)
Bolton’s career in the retail sector has
spanned three decades. He has held
executive management positions with
SuperValu, Inc., Bruno’s, Inc. and
American Stores Co. He currently is a
consultant/advisor to Leo J. Shapiro &
Associates and a board member for
Bemis Co. Inc.
Daniel L. Gust
Regional Member Director,
West Region
(Chairman of Retail Supply
Chain Committee)
Gust is president and owner of two Ace
stores in Longmont and Boulder, Colo.
He holds a mechanical engineering
degree from South Dakota State
University and a master’s of business
administration degree from Texas
Tech University.
Ernst Haberli
Board Advisor
Haberli became an advisor to the
Ace Board in 2005. He brings extensive
experience to Ace following his 30-year
career in executive positions for
companies such as Gillette Co.,
Georgia Pacific Corp., Fort James Corp.,
Pet, Inc., and Kraft Foods. He holds a
master’s of business administration
degree from Columbia University in
New York.
D. William Hagan
Regional Member Director,
Southeast Region
(Chairman of Compensation
and Human Resources
Committee)
Hagan is president of Hagan Ace
Hardware, an eight-store chain in
northeast Florida. He began his career
in the hardware industry in 1976,
after attending Florida Junior College
in Jacksonville.
Richard A. Karp
Member Director-At-Large
Karp owns Cole Hardware, a four-store
chain in San Francisco, and has served
as its president since 1981. Karp is a
graduate of the University of California
Berkeley and has a teaching credential
from San Francisco State University.
John M. Patricia
Member Director-At-Large
Patricia has owned Ace Hardware &
Nursery in Payson, Ariz., since
1988. After receiving his bachelor
of science degree at State University
in Albany, N.Y., he worked for RKB
Enterprises, as well as an Ace retail
business manager and for Activant.
Jeffrey M. Schulein
Regional Member Director,
West Region
Schulein is chief executive officer of
Crown Hardware, Inc., an 11-store Ace
chain in Southern California. Schulein
attended California State University
Long Beach. He entered the hardware
industry in 1975 with the purchase of
his first store in Corona del Mar, Calif.,
and in 1985, he affiliated the business
with Ace.
Richard W. Stine
Regional Member Director,
Southeast Region
(Chairman of Nominating and
Governance Committee)
Stine is an owner of Stine Lumber Inc.,
a 10-store chain in Louisiana, and has
been involved in the business for 28
years. He earned a degree in education
from the University of Southwest
Louisiana and a master’s in public
administration/statistics from Southern
Illinois University. He separated from
active duty in the United States Air
Force (USAF) as a Captain and as a
Colonel from the USAF Reserves.
Lori J. Terpstra
Member Director-At-Large
Terpstra owns Rylee’s Ace Hardware, a
three-store chain in the Grand Rapids,
Mich., area. Terpstra is the third
generation in her family to be involved
with Rylee’s Ace, which was founded by
her grandfather in the late 1940s. She
earned her bachelor of administration
degree from Calvin College.
David S. Ziegler
Member Director-At-Large
Ziegler is Vice President of Z Hardware
Co., a 10-store Ace chain in the north
western suburbs of Chicago. Ziegler
earned a bachelor of science degree in
business administration from Drake
University and went on to become a
Certified Public Accountant. Prior to
joining the family business in 1979,
he worked for three years at Arthur
Young & Co.
