Carol Raphael
AARP Board Chair
LETTER FROM THE BOARD CHAIR
AARP saw big changes in 2014 as it continued to take
advantage of real possibilities and innovative thinking.
One dramatic shift felt like a logical progression: After
an extensive national search, the previous AARP Board
of Directors, led by Gail Aldrich, unanimously selected
Jo Ann Jenkins as our new CEO.
An inspirational and dynamic leader, Jo Ann
knows AARP well. Most recently, she was
AARP’s Chief Operating Officer and architect
of our enterprise strategy. Previously, she
was President of AARP Foundation, a char-
itable affiliate focused on vulnerable older
adults, and Board Chair of AARP Services,
which meets the needs of people 50-plus
through the marketplace.
Jo Ann succeeded A. Barry Rand, who
made AARP more forward-looking and fi-
nancially healthy during his five-year tenure.
In June, the new Board and Executive
Team worked to strengthen AARP’s social
impact agenda, which focuses significant
resources on an America where individuals
50-plus have:
>Health Security: access to care, informa-
tion and services to lead healthier lives;
>Financial Resilience: opportunities and
resources to match longer life spans; and
>Personal Fulfillment: increasing opportu-
nities to continue meaningful lives as in-
tegral and important assets in our society.
We look forward to another transformational
year in which AARP will make a positive
and significant difference in the lives of the
50-plus population we serve.
