Taiwan
Political uncertainties affected sales in
Taiwan, with the overall market
shrinking 10% to 22,000 units. MMC
sales dropped as well, down 15% to
11,000 units. MMCs share decreased
from 54% to 51%.
E-BUSINESS
MMC is exploring various possibilities
in an effort to maximize the sales
potential of the Internet. The Internet
Showroom in which catalogs and sales
information are sent to users who log
onto the website and request informa-
tion is one such endeavor. Additionally,
MMC is gradually expanding its use of
CarPoint and AutoByTel services. Other
efforts being promoted by MMC include
the use of Internet technology and
online databases in development and
production, the promotion of efficiency
in administrative processes through
BPR (business process reengineering),
and the establishment of new business
models in conjunction with partners in
various industries.
MOTORSPORTS
The PAJERO achieved first and second
places in the 2001 Paris-Dakar Rally,
where the MMC team added a sixth
overall championship to its record of
victories. Further, The LANCER was
named the overall champion at the
69th Monte Carlo Rally, the first race in
the 2001 World Rally Championship
(WRC) series. In the Safari Rally in July
2001this years eighth WRC race
MMC took the manufacturers title and
Tommi Makinen, the Finnish driver
known for his skills at the wheel of the
LANCER, won the drivers champion-
ship. (Victories in heated competitive
environments such as these serve to
demonstrate the superiority of MMC’s
technology.)
