Technology has rapidly changed televisions, as advancements
have made screens thinner and lighter. Dow experts are
closely collaborating with customers to be on the forefront of
trends, helping enable new solutions for today. Now, the next
generation of revolutionary technology in displays is on
the horizon and it’s powered by Dow technology.
Electronics manufacturers are adopting Organic Light
Emitting Diode (OLED) technology as the leading solution
in display technology performance for large-screen displays
in television sets to deliver more vibrant and crisp color
pictures. OLEDs are self-luminous; unlike their counterparts,
they don’t require a backlight and color filter, which can
dilute the picture. As a result, OLED displays are more energy
ecient than existing TV technology and can be paper-thin.
The technology helps extend the lifetime of the OLED display,
reduce power consumption and enhance color performance.
Dow manufactures the red-, green- and blue-emitting
materials that are critical to the performance of OLED
displays. In fact, Dow has more than 100 patents related
to OLED materials.
