GE-PON System
We see rapid penetration
of broadband IP networks
into our everyday lives. An-
ticipating the extension of IP
networks and expansion of the
FTTH networks that domestic
telecom carriers offer, Oki has
launched the GE-PON*3 ac-
cess device. Oki will continue
to strengthen its offering of
equipment for these broad-
band IP networks, including
home VoIP gateways and set-
top boxes for IP television.

A platform for home
network service in the
ubiquitous era
The Oki Group has devel-
oped a platform, the BB
MediaRouter, which efficiently
and organically connects
various services together to
realize new home network
solutions that combine info-
telecom technologies with
home appliances. The BB
MediaRouter effectively uses
the home's existing infra-
structure, connecting home
appliances, sensors and other
electronic items to a network
to offer new and convenient
services.
carriers' new services in response to the increasing demand
accompanying network expansion.
Optical broadband networks such as FTTH*2 are continuing
to expand at a dramatic rate. Oki is concentrating resources to
vigorously promote its businesses in this field with its broad-
band home router, optical access devices and other equipment.
In particular, for broadband home router-related products,
including home-use VoIP routers, home servers, and set-top
boxes for video, we already have a high share in the Japanese
market. From this position of strength, we are aiming to deploy
terminals, middleware and LSIs for this products to the world
market, and have established a dedicated division to execute
this business.
*1. FMC: Fixed Mobile Convergence
*2. FTTH: Fiber-To-The-Home
Realization of the NGN, which is the integration of fixed net-
works and mobile networks over broadband IP, is already within
reach in Japan where the broadband ubiquitous network is
advanced. The Oki Group has been progressing with the de-
velopment of new technologies and new products that give it a
definite competitive edge in meeting this challenge and is now
strengthening its planning and proposing initiatives for these
products.
Telecom carriers in the near future will offer various new
services on the NGN, including the triple-play service that con-
verges voice, video and data. Oki is placing renewed emphasis
on applications and platforms including broadband application
servers, communication servers and FMC*1 systems. In addi-
tion, Oki is accelerating development of edge nodes including
access switches that will become indispensable for telecom
