This continued
commitment to
women and the
women’s game is
a priority for us.
The women’s market,
both domestically
and internationally,
holds great potential
for future growth
and we want to expand our leadership in this
category. Recent independent studies confirmed
we are the No. 1 womens brand in golf in the U.S.,
and we are launching a marketing campaign this
year that should make us even stronger. Our
“One Game” plan brings a new inclusive attitude,
one that can lure former players back into the
game, or add a whole new generation of golfers
that will view Callaway Golf as the unquestioned
leader in the women’s game.
One of the main objectives we have for 2009 and
beyond is to make sure we do business the right
way, not sacrificing long-term goals for short-
term gains. It’s one of the guiding principles that
has allowed us to remain a strong and healthy
company in spite of the economic turbulence.
Make no mistake, we still have a lot of work to
do, and tough decisions have been and will
continue to be made to ensure the Company
stays competitive and profitable. We will be
prudent and smart, and when the economy
does begin to turn around, we hope to be well-
positioned to take advantage of any opportunity
that presents itself.
The great statesman Winston Churchill once said,
A pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity.
An optimist sees the opportunity in every
difficulty.” I take this quote to heart because I
firmly believe that golf is a game of positive
expectations.
Every round, every
hole, every shot
represents a new
chance for a moment
you remember the
rest of your life.
It’s the allure that
brings people back
day after day, year
after year, to play a game that embodies honesty,
integrity and so regularly creates the opportunity
for greatness.
Those qualities don’t just describe golf. They’re
also the inspiration for how we do business. It’s
the only way Ely would have wanted it. And it’s
one of the best ways we can honor his vision.
I want to extend my most sincere thanks to
everyone who makes this Company great on
a daily basis. We wouldn’t be anywhere near
where we are without the contributions from
our employees, the support of our customers
and the acceptance of our products from our
loyal consumers. And, lastly, a special thanks to
you, our shareholders, for believing in us today
and tomorrow.
