Introduction to the
Financial Section
Beginning in 2008, the United States Postal
Service began issuing quarterly and annual
fi nancial statements in accordance with
Securities and Exchange Commission
guidelines. Our fi nancial reports are
submitted to the Offi ce of Management
and Budget and the Postal Regulatory
Commission, and are available on-line
at www.usps.com. The Postal Service
adheres to Generally Accepted Accounting
Principles. In 2010, the Postal Service
complied with Section 404 of the Sarbanes-
Oxley Act (SOX) as mandated by the Postal
Accountability and Enhancement Act of
2006. This was one of the largest successful
SOX implementations on record and the fi rst
within the federal government.
