LOCKHEED MARTIN CORPORATION 2007 ANNUAL REPORT
3
Consistent business growth with U.S.
government civil agencies is expected to diversify our
domestic business portfolio, and we continue to pursue
opportunities in our sustainment and logistics business.
In the area of missile defense, Lockheed
Martin was selected to develop and evolve the
capabilities of the Aegis sea-based missile defense
system; and our Terminal High Altitude Area Defense
(THAAD) system continued to prove its ability to
intercept missile threats with successful fl ight tests in
2007. Overall, we anticipate positive support for our
defense and national security programs in Congress
and the Department of Defense.
As a global enterprise with alliances in
more than 75 countries, we expect our international
business to remain robust with partnership programs
such as the F-35 Lightning II combat aircraft, and
in capabilities such as missile defense; radars and
defense electronics; fi ghter and cargo aircraft; platform
integration; and training.
We are pleased to report some of our most
signifi cant accomplishments of 2007:
A multi-year contract from the U.S. Air Force
for the sale of 60 new F-22 Raptor aircraft and
achievement of Full Operational Capability.
Continued success in our F-35 Lightning II
aircraft program including: The start of initial
production of the Conventional Take-Off
and Landing aircraft; completion of the
Critical Design Review of the Navy’s Carrier
Variant; more than 20 fl ights of our fi rst test
aircraft AA-1; and the beginning of fl ight-
line testing for the Short-Take-Off Vertical
Landing aircraft.
Our Phoenix Mars Lander was launched from
Cape Canaveral.
We were selected by the Transportation Security
Administration for a biometrics program that
identifi es and credentials employees working in
our nation’s shipping ports.
We delivered the eighth and fi nal satellite in the
Global Positioning System Block IIR program
to the Air Force.
The Advanced Technologies & Oceanic
Procedures (ATOP) air traffi c management
system for the FAA became fully operational.
We received a ten-year U.S. Air Force contract
to train Air Force Special Operations Command
crews on a variety of military missions.
