2009 Annual Report 7
Cobra Marine VHF radios as the official VHF radio of Sea Tow.
Sea Tow, a franchise-based, international marine assistance
organization with over 110 locations, representing a network
of nearly 1,000 captains, crew and professional support staff
who stand by 24 hours a day to serve its 160,000 members in
the recreational boating community.
In late 2009, Cobra Marine announced another long-term
agreement to distribute the popular, European C-pod Security
System, provided by Seakey AB, Sweden. Cobra serves as the
exclusive U.S. distributor of C-pod. The partnership offers
Cobra new products for the marine market and is aligned with
the Company’s strategy to launch new products with limited
start-up expenses and downside risk.
Cobra’s partnership with ProMiles® Software Development
Corporation, in association with TruckDown™ Info
International, Inc., to develop a new navigation system
specifically for the professional driver was also announced
in 2009. With this agreement, ProMiles’ and TruckDown’s
national database of professional driver-specific Points of
Interest (POI) became available in the new Cobra navigation
unit. The Company’s leading position with professional drivers
provides a perfect opportunity for the ProMiles database
while affording Cobra the opportunity to enhance its product
through cost-effective product development methods.
Cobra further utilized its assets by offering its proprietary
AURA Camera & Driving Hazard Database to a peer in the
industry. Cobra’s exclusive AURA database provides speed and
red light camera alerts on a portable navigation unit available
in both North America and Europe.
Cobra Electronics’ licensing agreement with Aries
Manufacturing, a leader in after-market wireless accessories,
began to realize its potential in 2009 with expanded distribution
and strong sales with a full line of wireless phone accessories
designed for professional drivers under the Cobra brand name.
The first products to market included a line of Bluetooth®
wireless technology-enabled, noise-canceling headsets.
