Operating expenses increased by $16.2 million, or 26.8%, to $76.4 million in 2009 from $60.2 million in 2008 due primarily
to more restaurants being operated in 2009. Operating expenses as a percentage of restaurant sales decreased to 15.6% in 2009 from
15.9% in 2008. The decrease in operating expenses as a percentage of restaurant sales was primarily due to lower natural gas and
utility costs partially offset by higher general liability insurance costs.
